I started sewing at the age of 9 on my grandma's hand handcraked singer sewing machine. My first project was a series of stuffed felt Christmas tree ornaments.
I eventually made my first item, which was a shirt that was tied in the front - I still did not know how to sew buttonholes. I eventually got to use an electric sewing machine.
After getting requests, I started sewing clothes for my friends by 14. As I got older, one of my main incentives for sewing was not wanting to be dressed like everyone else.
My other incentive was getting a kick out of copying the designer clothes that I saw in stores.
